플랜태저넷 가문에 맞선 리모주 부백들의 전략 : 기 6세(Gui Ⅵ)와 마르그리트(Marguerite de Bourgogne)를 중심으로(1239~1275)
13세기 중반에 리모주 부백령을 다스렸던 기 6세와 그의 부인 마르그리트는 플랜태저넷 가문을 견제하기 위해 강력한 군주 및 제후들의 지원을 얻고자 노 력했다. 첫 번째 부인과 사별한 기 6세는 부르고뉴 공작 위그 4세의 딸 마르그 리트와 재혼했으며 마르그리트는 브르타뉴 공작 장 1세의 장손을 사위로 맞아 들임으로써 군사·경제적 지원을 확보할 수 있었다. 또한 기 6세는 플랜태저넷 가문에 적대적이었던 카스티야왕 알폰소 10세와 동맹을 맺는데 성공했다. 특히 두 사람은 프랑스왕의 보호를 받기 위해 많은 노력을 기울였다. 기 6세의 첫 번째 부인은 필리프 2세와 루이 9세의 신임을 받던 인물의 딸이었으며 마르그 리트는 루이 9세와 자녀들의 결혼을 약속하는 혼인협정을 체결했다. 한편 1259년에 체결된 파리 조약을 통해 리무쟁 지배권을 획득한 헨리 3세 는 복종을 거부하는 기 6세와 마르그리트를 굴복시키기 위해 이들과 대립 중이 던 귀족들을 직간접적으로 지원했으며 특히 부백 가문의 지배에서 벗어나기 원 하던 리모주 시민들과 동맹을 맺고 군사 원조를 제공했다. 이에 루이 9세는 헨리 3세와의 전면적인 대립을 피하기 중립적인 자세를 취 했지만 리모주 부백령을 막내아들에게 영지로 제공하려던 계획이 리모주 시민 들의 거부로 인해 무산되자 마르그리트를 적극적으로 지원하기 시작했다. 그리 고 1274년 필리프 3세가 마르그리트의 리모주 소유권을 인정하고 에드워드 1세 의 권리를 부정함으로써 리모주 부백 가문은 플랜태저넷 가문을 물리치는데 성 공했다.
The Strategy of the Viscounts of Limoges against the Plantagenets : The Case of Gui VI and Marguerite de Bourgogne(1239~1275)
Guy VI and his wife Marguerite, viscounts of Limoges in the mid-13th century tried to gain the support of powerful monarchs and princes to keep the Plantagenet in check. For example, Guy VI remarried Marguerite, the daughter of duke of Burgundy and Marguerite took the eldest grandson of duke of Brittany as her son-in-law. And through these marriages, they could secure military and economic support. Guy VI also succeeded in forming an alliance with Alfonso X against the Plantagenet. In particular, the viscounts of Limoges made great efforts to receive the protection of the Capetian kings. Guy VI's first father-in-law was a person trusted by Philip II and Louis IX, and Marguerite signed the agreement with Louis IX promising to marry their children. After the Treaty of Paris, Henry III began supporting the nobles who were in conflict with Guy VI and Marguerite. In particular, he concluded an alliance with the citizens of Limoges and provided them with military support. Louis IX took a neutral stance to avoid an all-out confrontation with Henry III, but when his plan to provide the viscounty of Limoges to his youngest son fell through due to the refusal of the commune of Limoges, he began to actively support Marguerite. And with the help of Philip III, who recognized viscount’s ownership of Limoges and denied Edward I's rights, Marguerite was able to defeat the Plantagenet.
